SMS & Voice Call Terms

Effective date: September 8, 2026  ·  Last updated: September 8, 2026
SafetyCheck's core feature is contacting your designated emergency contact by text message and automated phone call when you miss a check-in. This page describes that messaging program ("SafetyCheck Alerts"), who receives messages, and how to opt out — as required by U.S. carrier and messaging regulations.
Important safety note before you opt out If you are an emergency contact and reply STOP, you will no longer receive check-in alerts for the person who added you — meaning they may go unnotified if you were their only contact. Please talk to them before opting out, or ask them to add a different emergency contact.

1. The SafetyCheck Alerts program

"SafetyCheck Alerts" is the SMS and automated voice call program used by the SafetyCheck app to (a) remind the app user to complete a check-in, and (b) notify a user's designated emergency contact(s) if a check-in is missed after all reminders have gone unanswered, including the user's last known GPS location. This program is operated using Twilio as our messaging and calling infrastructure provider.

2. Who receives messages

By providing your own phone number when creating a SafetyCheck account, you consent to receive check-in-related SMS messages at that number. By designating someone as an emergency contact, the app user represents that they have that person's permission to (a) provide their phone number to SafetyCheck and (b) have them receive SMS messages and an automated phone call if a check-in is missed. Consent is not a condition of purchasing any product or service other than the check-in alert feature itself.

4. Message frequency

Message frequency varies based on your check-in settings. An app user on a daily check-in schedule may receive up to a handful of reminder messages per day only if a check-in is missed; an emergency contact receives messages only when an alert is actually triggered, which may be rare or may never happen. Users on Basic or Pro plans with more frequent check-in windows (as often as hourly) may see a higher potential message volume tied to that schedule.

5. Message and data rates

Message and data rates may apply based on your mobile carrier and plan. SafetyCheck does not charge separately for SMS messages or phone calls sent through this program beyond your regular subscription fees, if any.

6. Opt-out and help

STOP

Reply STOP to any SafetyCheck message to opt that phone number out of future messages. See the safety note above if you are an emergency contact.

HELP

Reply HELP to any SafetyCheck message, or email [email protected], for support.

App users who opt their own number out of SMS reminders should be aware that the app's push notifications will still be the primary channel for check-in prompts; opting out of SMS does not disable your account.

7. Carrier liability

Carriers are not liable for delayed or undelivered messages. Message delivery is subject to effective transmission from your network operator and factors outside our control, including network availability and device settings.

8. Changes to this program

We may update these SMS Terms, the SafetyCheck Alerts program, or the underlying messaging provider from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by an updated "Last updated" date above.
